Creating A Beautiful Home

Are You Giving Your Master Bathroom A New Look?

by Jamie Carpenter

Have you been waiting a long time to give your bathroom a new look? Or, it might be that you have bought a previously-owned home that has outdated bathrooms in it, and you are starting your remodeling projects with the master bathroom. Whatever the reason that you are giving your master bathroom a new look, from selecting new bathroom tile to choosing other decorative touches, here are some ideas that might help you to design a bathroom you will enjoy for many years:

Bathroom Tile

One of the most dramatic changes in your master bathroom could be the selection of tile for your countertops. Tile is a great choice because, in addition to being gorgeous, it will be very easy to maintain and the tile will last a long time. The fact that there are many tile choices just makes your remodel job even more fun. As you make your selection of tile for your bathroom countertops, consider the look you want to establish. For example, if you want a bold, dramatic look, consider selecting a jewel tone for the color of your tile. If you want a more understated look, think of buying tile colors like off-white or very pale gray.

Maybe you want both an understated look and a touch of drama. In that case, consider buying two different tones of the same color for your tile. For instance, if you selected a very light gray color for the larger area that will be tiled, then choose something like black tile for a border. If you're undecided, think of looking at house decorating magazines where you might get ideas. For example, you might see a picture of a patio that has Mexican tiles as part of the design. There's no reason that you can't use patio tile in your bathroom tile remodeling job, right?

Decorative Touches

Think of the ways you can complement the bathroom tile you selected. For example, if you chose a shade of gray for the color of your bathroom tile, consider having pewter hardware for your sink and for the knobs on your bathroom cabinets. Even a silver-toned chandelier would be a good way to complement gray-toned tile. If you went with Mexican tile, think of selecting brass for your chandelier and for the hardware on the cabinets and the sink.

Even the choices you make for your bathroom towels can make a difference. For example, if you went with off-white for your tile, think of choosing a brighter color for your towels, just to add interest to the room, and then use the color of the tile for the monogram thread.
